Tea Pairing Guide

The Art of Tea and Dried Fruit Pairing

Along the Silk Road, traders discovered that tea and dried fruits were perfect companions. The tannins in tea balance the sweetness of dried fruits; the fruit adds body to the tea experience. This ancient pairing is at the heart of everything SUNORIGIN creates.

Turpan Raisins + Silk Leaf Tea

Why it works: The mulberry leaf tea has a clean, slightly grassy character with natural tannins that cut through the intense sweetness of sun-dried raisins. The result is a perfectly balanced mouthful, neither too sweet nor too dry.

How to serve: Brew the tea for 3 minutes at 85C. Place 5-6 raisins beside the cup. Take a sip of tea, then a raisin. Let the flavors merge.

Hotan Dates + Desert Rose Tea

Why it works: Hotan dates carry a rich, caramel-like depth. Rose tea adds a floral top note that lifts the date’s earthiness into something ethereal. Together they evoke an oasis at dusk.

How to serve: Use dried rose buds, steep 4 minutes. Pit one date and serve alongside. A classic of Persian-influenced Silk Road hospitality.

Kashgar Figs + Loulan Tea

Why it works: Dried figs have a honeyed, seedy complexity. Loulan tea (Luobuma) has a slightly bitter, mineral edge that echoes the ancient desert. The contrast is sophisticated and memorable.

How to serve: Steep 5 minutes at 90C. Quarter a dried fig and fan it beside the cup. Best enjoyed in the evening for its calming properties.
